Land Acknowledgement
RepresentASIAN Project™ operates out of Toronto (Tkaronto), the treaty territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit, and the traditional lands of the Anishinaabe, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples. This territory is covered by Treaty 13 signed with the Mississaugas of the Credit and the Williams Treaties signed with multiple Mississauga and Chippewa bands.
We recognize that Tkaronto has long been a gathering place for many Indigenous nations and continues to be home to diverse First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities. We honour the Dish With One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant — an agreement to share and care for the land and its resources in peace and friendship.
As settlers of the Asian diaspora living and working on this land, we acknowledge our responsibilities to its original stewards and our complicity in ongoing systems of colonization that have dispossessed Indigenous peoples of their land, languages and livelihoods. Our work to amplify Asian voices exists because of these lands and histories, and we hold ourselves accountable to building relationships rooted in respect, reciprocity and solidarity.
We encourage our readers and community members to learn about the histories, treaties, and Indigenous communities connected to the lands they live on, and to support the ongoing work of Indigenous leaders and organizers who continue to protect the land, water and future generations.
