Bruno Mars has teamed up with Lacoste to launch his first ever lifestyle brand — a collection of apparel and accessories that is “inspired by a lust for life and an entrepreneurial Midas touch,” according to a press release.
To create the collection, the Grammy-award winning singer created an alter ego, Ricky Regal, to help him think like a designer. According to Vogue, Ricky Regal is an “extremely fashion-forward man with an eye for design.” The line, which is called Lacoste x Ricky Regal, is a representation of what mars thinks this elevated version of himself would wear.
“When I’m on stage my name is Bruno Mars. When I’m making lavish luxurious garments, I go by Ricky Regal,” Mars said in a statement.
Mars has reportedly asked to do many collaborations in the past, but says it was the freedom to do what he wanted that made him sign on with Lacoste.
“Lacoste was the first and only brand that said, ‘Bruno you can do whatever you want,'” Mars said. “The respect of such creative freedom coming from a heritage fashion house was an honour.”
The collection itself consists of apparel, slides and accessories inspired by Miami nightlife, ’60s and ’70s glamour and live music. It includes fluid shirts, pop tracksuits, shorts, polo shirts, T-shirts, pants, slides and socks and an iconic pair of aviator sunglasses, which meshes Mars’ “seductive style” with Lacoste’s sports heritage and encapsulates everyday sports luxury.
The first Lacoste x Ricky Regal collection will be launched on March 5, 2021 through a global network of 18 exclusive retailers and will be available at select Lacoste boutiques and at lacoste.com starting March 8, 2021.
