Happy Lunar New Year!

The Year of the Snake will be ushered in on January 29, 2025, and this year, so many places in Toronto will be celebrating the advent of the Lunar New Year with special events. From unique dinners to markets to parties, here are some of the best 2025 Lunar New Year events to check out in Toronto.

Kiss My Pans LNY Dinner

WHEN: January 24-27, 6PM
WHERE: Kiss My Pans, 713 College St.
PRICE: $88 per person, minimum of 4 per reservation.

Singaporean café within a cheese shop, Kiss My Pans, will have three nights of feasts featuring dishes such as Yusheng Prosperty Toss, Hainanese White Chicken and Sambal Skate. For those who weren’t able to get reservations to this event, you can also do take-out of the Yusheng and chilli crab with fried mantou.

Snax Nguyen LNY Pop-Up at Kiss My Pans

WHEN: January 25, 12-3PM
WHERE: Kiss My Pans, 713 College St.
PRICE: Assorted pricing

Also held at Kiss My Pans will be a LNY baked goods pop-up by Great Canadian Baking Show contestant, Chi Nguyễn. Three fundraising menu items (Tray of Togetherness, five spice sticky toffee puding with shoyu toffee sauce and homemade White Rabbit candy hojicha and vanilla flavours) will hae donations going towards the United Nations Agency for Palestine Refugees and to LA Wildfire mutual aid.

Yueh Tung Restaurant LNY Feast

WHEN: January 25 and 26, seating begins at 5PM
WHERE: Yueh Tung Restaurant, 126 Elizabeth St.
PRICE: $380 (Dinner for 8), $280 (Dinner for 4)

Yueh Tung, Toronto’s first Hakka restaurant, is celebrating their 40-year anniversary with two special Lunar New Year dinners. The family-run restaurant will have a special menu inspired by Chinese New Year traditions, with each dish thoughtfully prepared to symbolize prosperity, health and joy. Dishes include double steamed butter and scallion lobster on fried rice, Hakka wonton garlic noodles, and of course, Yueh Tung’s famous chili chicken sizzling plate. The celebration will also include lion dancing.

Hey Fun Market

The market will feature lion dance performances by Wushu Project, live Chinese calligraphy, personal colour analysis by MyColoury, author meet-and-greet with authors Catherine Little and Sheun Lee, watercolour workshop with Ton Ton Art, tasty treats and drinks, and more!

Fete Chinoise Signature LNY Gala

Fete Chinoise will be celebrating its 10th anniversary of its Signature Lunar New Year Gala. The eent showcases the essence of Chinese culture and heritage through design, music, fashion and art, and this year’s edition will include special guests Linda Chung, Ginalina, William Yong and Tyler Shaw.

MIMI Chinese x Café Boulud LNY Dinner

WHEN: January 29, 6:30pm
WHERE: Café Boulud, 60 Yorkville Ave.
PRICE: $255 per person with wine pairing

Executive chefs Braden Chong and Will Resky from MIMI Chinese and Café Boulud, respectively, will be joining forces to create a special four-course Lunar New Year dinner that honours both French and Chinese culinary traditions.

Asian Arts & Culture Trust Lunar New Year Activation at TIFF

PRICE: Free drop-in mahjong tile-making and gameplay activities.

The Asian Arts & Culture Trust is hosting a Lunar New Year activation at TIFF Lightbox that celebrates Asian cultural traditions. The event includes mahjong tile-making with Christie Carrière, mahjong gameplay with Four Winds Toronto as well as a screening of Long Life, Happiness and Prosperity with a live virtual Q&A featuring director Mina Shum.

Red Cup x Hong Shing Lunar New Year Party

Ring in the Year of the Snake with a party at Hong Shing! The celebration will feature sounds by DJ Boiwest and DJ Jeffy and $5 Hennessy shots.

Highbell x Stackt Lunar New Year Market

WHEN: February 2, 12-6PM.
WHERE: Blue Moon Brewery, Stackt Market, 28 Bathurst St.

This indoor event will feature local East Asian businesses selling food, drink, artisanal accessories, toys, clothing and more. Chef Trevor Lui will be doing a live cooking demo and booking signing, and East Asian-themed movies like Crazy Rich Asians will be shown throughout the event. The market will also have music by DJ Nari, a game table featuring Yutnori, a traditional Korean holiday board game and special offers from Fat Bao!

Yan Dining Room: Lunar New Year Dinner (Six Hands)

WHEN: February 8, 7PM
WHERE: Yan Dining Room (inside Hong Shing Restuarant), 195 Dundas St W.

Yan Dining Room’s Chef Eva Chin is joining forces with MasterChef Canada winner Chef Christopher Siu and 11-time Guinness World Record holder, Chef Wallace Wong, for a six-hands Cantonese-inspired Feast of the Seven Fishes banquet. Inspired by neo-Chinese cuisine and Cantonese culinary heritage, the courses will feature Canadian sustainably sourced seafood and shellfish, along with Baijiu cocktail pairings or wine.

Toronto Symphony Orchestra Year of the Snake: A Lunar New Year Celebration

The Toronto Symphony Orchestra’s annual Lunar New Year concert returns for a symphonic celebration in honour of the Year of the Snake. Hosted by comedian “Dashan,” the concert will feature renowned conductor Naomi Woo, guzheng player Wu Fei, violinist Stella Chan and the TSO.
