Since 2015, cultural platform Fête Chinoise has been hosting its signature gala and curating a collection of live performances, culinary works, art installations and cultural activations to showcase the Chinese Canadian community. Alongside their annual print magazine, Fête Chinoise aims to show the ways that Chinese Canadians have contributed to the community in Canada and celebrate Chinese heritage. This year’s event is themed “Bold New Beginnings”, a nod to Fête Chinoise’s second decade in operation.

For Fête Chinoise’s editor-in-chief Deborah Lau-Yu, their annual event is an opportunity to show off the beauty of Chinese culture through the lens of Canada. She wanted the event and the annual magazine to be a luxurious and beautiful experience to emphasize how aesthetically pleasing and unique Chinese culture in Canada is. When walking into the signature event, Lau-Yu hopes that attendees will “sense quality and welcomeness and be like, ‘Wow, it’s so beautiful.’”

For the magazine, she wanted to make a space for Chinese Canadian stories to be told—stories that are often neglected in mainstream media. “We have to come together and really elevate each other and welcome friends who are not Chinese into our heritage too so they can be celebrated,” she says.

This year, Fête Chinoise’s Signature Event will include performances from Chinese singer Jackie Li, Chinese Canadian piano player Ryan Huang, Hong Kong Canadian singer Leslie Chiang and singer Tyler Shaw. The food served will be crafted by chefs like MIMI Chinese and Sunny’s Chinese’s Braden Chong, Yan Dining Room’s Eva Chin, Pears Restaurant’s Keith Pears and No. 8 Restaurant’s Nick Lin.

The event will support the Chinese Canadian Museum in Vancouver's work of telling Chinese Canadian stories, community outreach and archival projects. The event will also support Scarborough Health Network’s Birchmount Tower campaign. A silent auction taking place will benefit the Fête Chinoise Cultural Foundation as well as these two community partners. Over the past 10 years, Fête Chinoise has raised a net cumulative donation amount of over $570,000 for Canadian charities.

Tickets for the post-dinner reception start at $690 and are now available at www.fetechinoise.ca
